Per capita, the Northern Kentucky, including Greater Cincinnati, region is home to more Fortune 500 headquarters than New York, Chicago or Los Angeles. The Greater Cincinnati Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) – including seven Northern Kentucky counties – is home to nine regulars on the list on the north side of the Ohio River. Five additional members in Kentucky account for $10 billion in annual revenues.

The largest public employer in the MSA is The Kroger Co., which has 21,263 employees, according to data from REDI Cincinnati. Kroger is headquartered in Cincinnati and has distribution facilities in Northern Kentucky, in addition to its retail stores. The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG), located in Hebron, is the third-largest employer in the MSA, with 12,682 employees. (It’s the largest employer in Northern Kentucky). St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Northern Kentucky, with more than 8,400 employees, also is among the top employers in the region, as is Fidelity Investments in Covington, with more than 4,400 employees, and Boone County Schools, with 3,301.

The region has a labor shed of more than 1.1 million people and nearly 190,000 professional workers. The top professional occupations in the MSA include accounting and finance, computer and IT, human resources, purchasing and procurement, and media (marketing, public relations and design). With a competitive business climate and infrastructure and deep talent pools, the region is perfectly positioned to support its key industries – automotive and aerospace manufacturing, financial services, food and flavor, life sciences and logistics technology.

Northern Kentucky offers a competitive business climate built on low tax burdens, competitive incentive packages and below-average utility costs. The Cincinnati MSA was named the #1 most cost-friendly business location among large U.S. cities in the Tax Foundation/KPMG Location Matters Report, 2016. The region is centrally located where the north meets the south and the Midwest meets the Southeast.
