LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Nov. 4, 2013) — Mayor Greg Fischer and Jefferson Riverport International officials on Friday announced a Riverport expansion of 162 acres located along Dixie Highway near the Watson Lane intersection in Louisville. This new development, Riverport Phase 5, is the first non-contiguous development beyond the 2,000 acres that makes up the industrial site between the Greenbelt Highway and the banks of the Ohio River.
“Riverport Phase 5 has been a part of Riverport’s plans for years, and now is the time to start building infrastructure and spec space for new companies to locate in Louisville,” Fischer said. “This most recent expansion demonstrates our recovering economy and bodes well for our residents who want to get back to work.”
Initial plans for Phase 5 call for four large parcels suitable for cross-dock, distribution facilities encompassing 2.6 million square feet. However, there may be more or fewer lots based on the users’ needs. The site is served by local utilities with sewer service provided by the extension of the sewers within Pendleton Road and drainage to existing Weaver Run.
“Our research shows demand for more distribution and light-manufacturing facilities in the Metro Louisville area. We can be flexible with the development of this site and will work with companies locating here to develop facilities and infrastructure designed specifically for their needs,” said Riverport Authority President Larry McFall.
Primary access to Riverport Phase 5 is from the intersection of Dixie Highway (US 31W) and Watson Lane, which is approximately 2.5 miles from I-265, the Gene Snyder Freeway. The current intersection will be revised to accommodate additional traffic. A secondary access roadway is proposed from the existing Dixie Highway and Lewis Lane intersection. Roadways will be built to suit the needs of tenants in the Phase 5 development.
