Pink Ribbon fundraiser to benefit Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation’s Yes Mamm! Program

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 3, 2014) –LM Communications, the Lexus Store of Lexington and KentuckyOne Health Cancer Care are working to increase breast cancer survival rates with their Pink Ribbon Fundraising Campaign during the month of October.

KentuckyOne Health logoBreast cancer affects 12 percent of women and is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women in the U.S. Yet, with early detection, the five-year survival rate is above 80 percent.

The Pink Ribbon Fundraiser will benefit the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation, part of KentuckyOne Health. Money raised will support the Yes Mamm! Program, which provides lifesaving screenings, patient navigation and travel assistance at no cost for those who qualify.

“So many women in our community go without regular mammograms and breast screenings because they’re cost-prohibitive,” said Dr. Kimberly Stigers. “Through this funding, we’re able to continue to further our mission to bring healing, hope and wellness to all.”

Throughout the month of October, the Lexus Store of Lexington will don new and used vehicles with pink ribbons. With each Lexus purchased, the Lexus Store will make a donation to the Yes Mamm! Program and present a check at the end of October.

“Lexus believes in giving back to our communities and October is the perfect month to do our part as a pink partner with Saint Joseph.  We also hope everyone joins us for our Cocktails for Cancer event on October 15 from 5-8 pm that also benefits Yes Mamm!” said Dan Defler, general manager, the Lexus Store of Lexington.

Death rates from breast cancer have been declining since 1989, which is believed to be the result of earlier detection through screening, increased awareness and improved treatment. More than 570 Kentucky women will die of invasive breast cancer this year.Access to mammograms through programs like Yes Mamm! is vital to improving these statistics among the underserved.

“LM Communications is a long-term advocate in raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research, so we are very excited to be a partner in the Pink Ribbon Campaign,” said Craig Olive, general manager, LM Communications. “Using the power and reach of our radio stations, we will go to work to increase the success of the campaign’s goal to raise money for the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation’s Yes Mamm! Program.”

Yearly mammograms are recommended for all women beginning at age 40 and continuing as long as they are in good health. Through the “Yes Mamm!” program, more than 500 women will receive free or reduced cost mammograms at Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East, Saint Joseph Berea and Saint Joseph London.

“October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but the resources of the Yes Mamm! program are available 365 days a year and is 100 percent funded by the generosity of our partners, including the Lexus Store of Lexington and LM Communications,” said Di Boyer, director of major gifts, Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation.
