The 2016 House races and what they could mean for 2017 is set to take center stage at the Kentucky Chamber’s Business Summit as Democratic House Speaker Greg Stumbo and Republican Leader Jeff Hoover are scheduled to speak.
Stumbo and Hoover are both confirmed to attend the Kentucky Chamber’s 2016 Business Summit and Annual Meeting, presented by Bingham Greenebaum Doll, on July 15.
The two House leaders will participate in a discussion moderated by Jacqueline Pitts, the Managing Editor of The Bottom Line, the news site of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.
The Kentucky House of Representatives is the only Democratically-controlled state legislative body remaining in the South, with a slim majority of 53-47. With the smallest majority in years, the Republicans are hoping to gain the seats needed to take control for the first time since 1922.
Because of the close numbers and the new political landscape with Republican Gov. Matt Bevin and other GOP candidates winning statewide offices by large margins in 2015, Pitts will discuss what the leaders expect out of the fall elections and what each of their agendas will look like in the 2017 session of the General Assembly.
Now in its eleventh year, the Business Summit and Annual Meeting, scheduled for July 14 and 15 at the Downtown Marriott Louisville, provides an opportunity for business leaders throughout the Commonwealth to discuss the issues related to the local, national and international economies. The Kentucky Chamber’s signature event has consistently brought renowned journalists, political analysts and speakers to the Business Summit with the intent to enhance the conversations had during the two-day think tank.
