Lexington honors Jackie French for outstanding Parks and Recreation service

July 17 proclaimed ‘Jack French Day’ in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 22, 2016) – Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government employee Jackie French was honored earlier this week for her 38 years of outstanding service at Parks and Recreation. During the July 17 Super Sunday basketball showcase, Councilmember James Brown presented French with a proclamation from Mayor Jim Gray declaring that day as “Jackie French Day” in Lexington.

Super Sunday is annual basketball event, organized in-part by French, who has also organized the LFUCG men’s adult “Dirt Bowl” basketball league since 1979.

During the event, French also received a Certificate of Appreciation plaque from the Georgetown Street Area Neighborhood Association for her dedicated service and outstanding contributions toward the sustainable development of Douglass Park.

For nearly 40 years, Super Sunday has been held at Douglass Park and features LFUCG men’s summer league games throughout the day. The event is sponsored by LFUCG and the GSANA, and also includes special entertainment, live music, concessions and vendors. Thousands of Lexington residents head out to Douglass Park each year to watch the exciting basketball action displayed on Super Sunday.
