GoVoteKY.com exceeds online voter registration goal

More than 40,000 Kentuckians have used site

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 20, 2016) — GoVoteKY.com has exceeded its goal for users, with more than three weeks remaining before the registration deadline, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes announced today. More than 40,000 Kentuckians have used the portal to register to vote or update their existing registration. The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 11. The election is Nov. 8.

And, importantly, it’s saving time and money for government.”

More than 3,500 of the approximately 12,700 new voters who registered online are 18-year-olds who will be eligible to cast their first vote in a general election. The new voters represent 6,879 Democrats, 4,018 Republicans, and 1,860 Independents or other parties.

Grimes has been traveling Kentucky on a GoVoteKY.com Tour since the launch of the portal in March. Her tour has included stops at colleges, universities, technical schools, and meetings with civic groups and organizations. Grimes’ discussions with students, community leaders, and Kentuckians from all backgrounds center on the future of the commonwealth’s elections, including a pilot project for electronic poll books, and the benefits of online voter — especially in cost savings and improvements in accuracy of voter rolls. Grimes is also continuing to express the need for early voting and automatic restoration of voting rights for nonviolent felony offenders to improve participation in Kentucky.

GoVoteKY.com is now a one-stop voter portal for voter registration, voting locations, sample ballots, poll worker sign-up, and other important election information.
