Nominees named to fill vacancy for Circuit Court in Butler, Edmonson, Hancock and Ohio counties

FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 1, 2017) — The Judicial Nominating Commission, led by Chief Justice of Kentucky John D. Minton Jr., today announced nominees to fill the vacant Circuit Court judgeship in Butler, Edmonson, Hancock and Ohio counties, which make up the 38th Judicial Circuit. The vacancy is in the circuit’s Division 1.

The three nominees for the judgeship are:

  • Timothy Ray Coleman of Morgantown — Coleman is the commonwealth’s attorney for the 38th Judicial Circuit.
  • E. Glenn Miller of Hartford — Miller is in private practice. He received his juris doctor from the University of Kentucky College of Law.
  • Harold W. Newton of Hawesville — Newton is in private practice. He received his juris doctor from the University of Kentucky College of Law.

The Circuit Court judicial seat became vacant when Judge Ronnie C. Dortch resigned Jan. 16.

Circuit Court is the court of general jurisdiction that hears civil matters involving more than $5,000, capital offenses and felonies, divorces, adoptions, termination of parental rights, land dispute title cases and contested probate cases.
