After President Trump announced Tuesday he is ordering an end to the Obama-era program that shields young undocumented immigrants from deportation, Congress has been called on to come up with a new legislative solution to the immigration issue before the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program protections are phased out in six months.
The Kentucky Chamber has encouraged immigration reform for many years in its federal agenda and released a statement Wednesday about the issue asking Congress to find a common sense legislative solution.
“As part of our federal priorities for many years, the Kentucky Chamber encourages Congress to pursue immigration reform, including a path for legal status for the estimated 11 million undocumented people in the United States, allowing them to emerge from the shadows and create a stable workforce. In light of the administration’s decision regarding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, the Kentucky Chamber urges the administration and Congress to find a legislative solution to this issue, which is now set to expire in six months.”
