Kentucky ranks 14th in The Doggy Love Index

Survey given to dog owners in all 50 states

unnamedLEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 4, 2015) — Kentuckians love their dogs. The commonwealth ranked 14th nationally in a survey by Big Heart Pet Brands—makers of Milk-Bone—that asked 3,000 U.S. dog owners how regularly they engage in loving behaviors with their dogs. The survey, called The Doggy Love Index, was created for Valentine’s Day.

California was No. 1, followed by New York, Washington, Tennessee, Florida, Massachusetts, Texas, Missouri, Ohio, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Hampshire and Kentucky.

Among all respondents, 86 percent said they say “I love you” to their dogs at least once month, 73 percent buy a gift for their dog once a month and 68 percent allow their dog to sleep with them at least once a month.

When asked if they would rather spend Valentine’s Day with their dog or a romantic partner, 39 percent of unmarried women said they prefer dogs, compared to 23 percent of unmarried men and 20 percent of all U.S. residents.
