VERSAILLES, Ky. — Ouita Michel, one of Kentucky’s most celebrated chefs, is teaming up with other noted chefs and pitmasters for an exclusive dinner at Woodford Reserve Distillery celebrating the smoky greatness of BBQ.

Michel will be joined by Joy Crump of Fredericksburg, Va. and her pitmaster Matt Deaton, along with pitmaster Chad Lindon of Kentucky. They will collectively create a five-course menu built around the theme of smoke.

The evening, during Bourbon Heritage Month, will be called “Woodford Smoke” and feature Woodford Reserve cocktail pairings, along with special tours of the distillery.

“This is not your grandfather’s BBQ, but a more unusual and elegant approach to the smoker,” Michel said.

Ouita, who has opened eight restaurants and bars in Kentucky, is chef-in-residence at Woodford Reserve. She has been a James Beard Foundation Award nominee as Outstanding Restaurateur and as Best Chef Southeast numerous times. Crump, co-owner of Mercantile in Fredericksburg, Va., has appeared on Top Chef and has cooked at the James Beard House in New York City.

Woodford Smoke will be held 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14. Tickets are $100 and can be purchased at woodfordreserve.com/events.
