Louisville, Ky. – Two milestones were recently achieved with the Ohio River Bridges Project Downtown Crossing.

All three towers of the new bridge being built across the Ohio Rive reached their finished heights and the Indiana approach was connected to the bridge deck at the northern most tower.

The new cable-stayed bridge is the centerpiece of the Ohio Rivers Bridges Project Downtown Project. The new bridge is expected to carry two-way traffic by January. Ultimately, once the entire Ohio River Bridges Project is complete, the new bridge will carry I-65 traffic along six northbound lanes; the adjacent Kennedy bridge will carry southland traffic along the interstate.

The new bridge is being built with nine piers, four on land and five in the water. Three of the piers include tower supports.

The tallest tower, the center tower or Tower 4, is 280 feet. The tower closest to the Kentucky shore, Tower 3, mirrors Tower 5 near the Indiana shore. Both are 230 feet.
